Always a fun walk. Watch the sheep at the top, they’ll have you’re lunch away given the chance.
Fantastic, I loved it, glad you went up by striding edge, the last time we did it was easter-time and the shoulder from the edge was solid ice, we had to do a belly wriggle over it, stupid really, we should have had ice picks. Quite boring from the Thirlmere side. Thanks for the memory.
a wonderfull walk,i think i will be in the minority when i say i prefer the ascent via swirral, and descending via striding. it goes against the flow, but thats just me
Fantastic! striding edge looks a bit too scary for me.
Just treat it with respect and you’ll be fine
You don’t have to go along the peak of the edge, there is a lower path that many people take.
Thanks. I live near cliffs and I’m not good with heights there, so the thought of heights either side scares me. Would taking the lower path avoid that? I’d love to go up there.
Yes, the lower path takes you away from the pinnacle of the edge, but only about 20ft below it. If you pause the video at 2 minutes you can see the lower path on the right side of the edge. As long as you’re sensible, with good weather conditions, you should be fine. I hope you manage to get up there, it really is an exhilarating experience.
Walking over the striding edge one of the most scary things in my life!
I also swam across that lake you showed in 1.46.
I just did Helvellyn this weekend and Striding Edge was one of the scariest things I’d done too… until I had to try and make my way down on to Swirral Edge with the cliff covered in thick ice. Never been so scared. However, I do think the snow and ice made it all the more beautiful. Red Tarn was frozen solid. See my video if you’re interested.
yes i made the mistake of leaving my lunch for a minute and discovered that for myself, in fact it happened after sharp edge up blencathra aswell lol
Try bannerdale crags up the east ridge, a nice little walk.
A great video, a big thank you for sharing it with us, id like nothing better then climb these mountains, but with my partner having arthiritis, and me with a disc complaint, we just enjoy what we see on here, again a big thank you.
This is where the movie The Plague Dogs was based on
I use to spend my childhood holidays in the lakes, its a beautiful place and peaceful, well it was back then. I have found it has become commercialised now though, which has spoiled it a bit for me.
