Trekking Poles

There are many arguments for and against using Trekking Poles. I used to think that they were used for the Alps not for use in the UK hills. They dont look out of place any more as they are so popular, but please dont use them on the tarmac as they make a bit of a noise! I for one do use them if the climb is steep, I have a bit of a dodgy knee and they have helped a lot. I suppose the only way to find out is to try them, buy an inexpensive pair first and see if they make any difference to your fell walking experience.
