You can purchase some beautifully illustrated guide books that will show you the best places to walk in the Lake District. Most of the guide books will help you to discover many beauty spots, and provide you with some great photographic shots of the locations. However, the maps themselves in the guide books wont provide the detail that most fell walkers will require. Therefore you will need to make sure that you have a good quality map to hand for example something along the lines of the English lakes ordnance survey maps or the Ordnance Survey Pathfinder series at www.ordsvy.gov.uk the scale is 4cm to 1 km.
